• The serial number was on a plate riveted to the swivel bracket above and between the clamp screws..
• Serial numbers 3493913 thru 3865694 were 1973 models.
• Merc 850's were produced as Merc 850E (Electric Starting, Short Shaft, with Alternator) and Merc 850EL (Electric Starting, Long Shaft, with Alternator).
