General Information:

• This model was painted all "Cloud White," except for the black on the wraparound cowl. 
• The serial number was on a plate riveted to the swivel bracket above and between the clamp screws..
• Serial numbers 1477910 thru 1531958 were 1962 models.
• Serial numbers 1552535 thru 1605951 were 1963 models.
• In 1962 Merc 500's were produced only in Merc 500E (Electric Starting, Short Shaft, with Alternator), and Merc 500EL (Electric Starting, Long Shaft, with Alternator).
• In 1963, Merc 500's were produced in Merc 500M (Manual Starting, Short Shaft,) Merc 500ML (Manual Starting, Long Shaft,) Merc 500S (Electric Starting, Short Shaft without Alternator,) Merc 500SL (Electric Starting, Long Shaft, without Alternator, Merc 500E (Electric Starting, Short Shaft, with Alternator) and Merc 500EL (Electric Starting, Long Shaft, with Alternator)
